"As with most of the south during Reconstruction in the 1870s, the White League continued with their terror, violence, and voter intimidation to suppress the Black vote. The next governor of Louisiana was Davidson Penn, a former Confederate officer." I find this very important as we come to our own moment in history in 2024. People are afraid to go to the polls and have opted in record numbers to vote by mail and early... There has been voter intimidation and suggestive threats of violence against people and the press. People stealing election signs and destroying them. Just last election there was an attack on the capital to prevent the transfer of power (a staged insurrection) where officers lost their lives. Curiously, the top hit (autofill) on google when typing "was January 6th..." is "violent" (was January 6th violent)??? Has the propaganda gone so far that people are not sure if January 6th was violent when people lost their lives? I'm befuddled for sure that we are in a time that is somewhat reminiscent of the 1870s.

It is reminiscent of the 1870s. What the 1870s has shown us is that when Black people come into power, there is a significant shift to make sure white supremacy takes precedence.

How wild is this piece of history it's really amazing how much has been printed but never shared with the public we really don't know a lot. I loved your flowers at the top of this piece. :) They set a tone. lol.

Thank you! Yes there’s really a lot out there these days that have been digitized. Thank God for the internet. Or else I would be in the library scrubbing through microfiche. 🤣 boy I remember those days 😂.
