Hi, I’m Danita Jones

Thank you so much for joining me. I’m a writer and television producer. I’ve written for the original Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and I was a staff writer on Frasier. Plus, have had numerous feature films in development. And I have produced countless hours of unscripted television. And even have written podcasts on JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette.

You’re probably wondering why a person with this background want to chop it up with you about History’s Untold Stories. In particular, the history of marginalized people in the United States.

Well, when I was a kid and all the way through high school, I couldn’t stand history. I didn’t start having a love of history until I had an African American History course in college. I, like, most Black Americans didn’t see ourselves in the history books except for slavery and then the civil rights movement. I didn’t begin to love other people’s history until I really started to learn about my own.

For quite some time, I’ve been wanting to write a historical fiction novel series set in the Reconstruction Era, particularly surrounding the Black elected officials. And now, with certain people in our own government trying to keep some of our history out of schools, I thought, why not share the information I’ve been learning about as I dig deep into this time period. Also, I’m trying to raise money so I can spend more time on this, but a sista’s got to pay bills.

In the process of researching, and I’m still researching, what I love is sharing all the stories that I come across. Some are thrilling and exciting. Others are sad and devastating. But the common denominator is that I found people with unyielding resilience. And that brings me here to you.

History’s Untold Stories will uncover and discuss the lives of people of color that the history books overlooked or didn’t feel relevant. I feel deeply that their stories must be told, and I want to honor that and them as well.
