My Cousin is Missing - Chicago Area

Cancellation of September's Monthly Meeting

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to inform you that I won’t be having a meeting this month. My 70 year old cousin, Sharon Harper, is missing and I flew to Chicago last week to help find her.

She’s mentally ill and has been in a facility for decades. The facility allowed her to sign herself out on July 23rd without informing us. My aunt, who is point of contact, found out last Sunday, September 15th. So Sharon has been missing for 7 weeks now without psychiatric and high blood pressure medication.

When I arrived on Tuesday, I filed a police report and have been working with the assigned detective. They have also sent the flyer to hospitals, nursing facilities, fire departments and media but to my knowledge, no one in the media has covered it, yet. One outlet wanted to do a more in depth story, but my family is very private and didn’t want to do an interview. I hope the flyer will get blasted by as many outlets as possible.

I hope to be back sharing more History’s Untold Stories in America in October, but for now, I’m here trying to get the word out as much as possible and pray that we find Sharon safe and sound.

Sharon was last seen on Chicago’s Westside in the Douglass Park (formerly Douglas Park) area but we all used to live in the Garfield Park area. So, it’s possible she may have ventured in that area as well.

One good thing, the police didn’t find anyone meeting her description as a Jane Doe in the city’s morgue, so we feel she’s out there somewhere.
