I’ve been having a hard time writing anything since the presidential election.
I felt mostly numb the day after.
After that, there was a lot to contemplate.
This felt different from the first time he won.
The first time he won, I felt betrayed by the people that voted for him.
This time it was just confirmation… of who they are.
Last Sunday, I was on a call with the Win With Black Women group. They played a video of Victor Blackwell from CNN and he discussed the painting by Atlanta artist David Roby that I have below. Here’s the link to the video: Victor Blackwell - CNN
It’s a painting of an older Black woman wrapped in the American flag and to me it looks like she’s repairing it with a needle and thread.
This painting still makes me emotional when I see it.
It reminds me of how hard my ancestors worked to not only build this country for free but repair it too.
To make it live up to it’s promises.
It’s ideal self.
After the call with Win With Black Women, I was going to write a post with all the statistical information on the election that Joy Reid, who was also on the call, shared. I have the pdf of all the slides and everything.
It stated who did what and this and that. Oh, it was going to be glorious long and informative article. And if you want to find out what she said, you can find the airing of The Reid Out from Monday, November 11, 2024.
So, I was going to do all of that.
But I, like many Black women in this country, am tired.
We are tired.
Tired. Tired.
I’m not saying that we are giving up, because that’s just not what we do.
That is not who we are.
I will say that most of us are going to be very selective in how we move forward.
How we move forward in this world.
In this country.
I’m going to end this post with a clip from Trevor Noah on Black women. It begins around 1:21.
Let that sit with you.
And on that note…
Be blessed.
Be safe.
And take care.
I will be back writing on History’s Untold Stories in America, but just not today.
Best,
Danita
So with you Danita. I'm deflated x a million. But keep sending money now to ACLU so they can hopefully keep up the fight while we get our strength back. The Noah tribute was incredible. And to think he made that a year ago! The painting is heartbreaking...
Oh and that painting. Just heartwrenching but she continues to sew. I'll look at the other links sooner than later. Thank you for the continued education 💗
